Mid-Atlantic participated in the grand opening of Cherokee Investment Partners, LLC (Cherokee) Mainstream Greenhome in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 10-11, 2007. The greenhome was designed to use less energy, less water and provide a healthier living environment, all while feeling like a traditional home. As an environmental firm and partner company with Cherokee, Mid-Atlantic is championing efforts internally toward "green" technologies and practices, as well as providing services related to sustainable development initiatives. For the GreenHome project, Mid-Atlantic performed an indoor air quality (IAQ) testing/monitoring evaluation based on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Ð Home and Corporate Interiors (LEED-H and LEED-CI) rating systems. The LEED certification involves baseline IAQ testing after completion of construction for several IAQ parameters and analytes to document that specified levels are indicative of "green" target criteria. The study found that concentrations of each of the IAQ parameters at the GreenHome were within the recommended ranges, while the laboratory results for the air sampling were below the limits of quantification for the individual analytes. Furthermore, the mold spore counts were acceptably lower than ambient concentrations and the radon gas testing results were well below the EPA's action level criteria. Consequently, the construction and systems employed for the GreenHome attained or surpassed the indoor air LEED certification criteria.
